"vincent visits stanthorpe"

Back to my diaries again. Thomas Spence is a great Stanthorpe artist who had an inspiring exhibition at Redlands(and jointly at Stanthorpe) last year. I have been trying his use of hard and soft graphite and find it works well. I'm slowly completeing all the little individual pages of "Grey", one of my current diaries and will post a few as I work on them. An exhibition I had for this year has been now organised for Redland Art Gallery in May 2012, along with a larger artist book show. Very exciting but must keep working, even though the deadline is a long way off.

tumeric

A good crop of tumeric (More vermillion) this year. Seems to like the extra rain we had.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a perennial plant of the ginger family. It is quite attractive during the year but dies off in winter ready to be harvested. I started my crop from a piece of root (rhizome) we bought in Byron Bay. I use it fresh in curries now but dried and ground up for the rest of the year.

wako jacko

I thought this window in Tokyo fits me rather well.

lost my beanie

A chilly morning (6C) in Brisbane but we'll have beautiful clear blue skies and a max of 20C. Had to put on my beanie to work out in my studio. Which reminded me of this photo of a cemetery for still born babies. A sad but also positive photo from a special cemetery in Tokyo not far from where we lived for a short while in 2008.

fine dancing

Just finished reading a book on Bill Robinson that was published to coincide with his 75th birthday and his retrospective at QUT. Will definitely get to it once all my medical interventions are complete. This is an older image playing with marks and words.Bill says, "In the world of art there are two complementary activities, the creative and the critical. One brings up the substance of truth, the other is the evaluation and commentary on it."

bell pepper

bell pepper

Another breathless cloudless winter's morning in the garden simply glorious. Jenny helped pull out the rosellas and harvest some tumeric . I will use some fresh but cut and dry most of it to grind into a powder later as needed. The smell and flavour are to die for.
The bed is almost ready for my next crop of spring onions, english spinach (the chinese spinach - amaranth was not popular apart from our chinese neighbour), and some asian greens. Finally achieved a ripe bell pepper and now am a little unsure how to eat it. I think it will be like a mishappen capsicum, sweet and crunch rather than searing hot like my Thai chillies. Will let you know soon.
