train lines

A cover (Kraft paper/card of course) makes a long continuous drawing so much more presentable. It must be in the opening and page turning especially with transparent paper that lets you look into the future as well as in the past, that makes the difference.

"train lines" is a continuous drawing of time and distance done on a train from Ormiston to South Brisbane stations. The drawing lasted 53 minutes under the influence of the train's speed, acceleration and braking, cornering, track conditions and the state of the train driver's mental health. It was done with black pigmented ink on 75gsm tracing paper.

Sensational concept with palimpsest overtones, well done.

Thank you both for your kind comments. Yes Rob it could be done on a long scroll but then the transparency bit would not work as well.

You are just brimming over with ideas aren't you? This is a beauty. I love the idea of drawing on the train.

Great idea Jack and love the transparent layers and random marks in the book.

I once did something similar but, used a camera, pressed against a train window and made a video of the moving landscape. I ended up with very abstract lines, flashes and rhythms like a drawing.

You have been busy Jack and have produced another great little book. Such a fun idea to draw on the train.

Lovely! I do the same - on a train, airplane,in the car on a long trip when my husband is at the wheel, even while in a rocking chair when friends gathered. Never thought of marking on transparent paper though. Do you mind if I try this? Enjoy!

Thanks for all the extra good ideas:
drawing while the wife drives? maybe? The result could be very unexpected! Camera to make a video is also a great idea.

Thanks Velma, I found that it is available in a couple of different weights too. The heavier one seems to suit me best although it's not much good with wet.
