the translation

About the size of a playing card "the translation" is the latest little work to fly to Finland. Although Carina and I, both speak several languages, English is our common one. The book is made from different kinds of papers, of different sizes and textures. It includes text in different languages and is an attempt to show the differences and similarities in translating.

Thanks Velma. I'm always glad when my doings appeal to someone. Particularly another bookster.

Love the use of foreign text and colorful "white space."

Thank you for your comments Miss Iowa. The text is from the paper patterns like Simplicity, Burda or Butterick. The thin paper becomes almost invisible when you glue it with PVA.

Hi Jack, I was one of your life drawing students from QCA back in 2006 and even though I was a film student, your drawing class was one of my favourite classes of all! It's great to find you online and see your recent works and to know that you are well. I remember that you introduced us to the concept of handmade artist books and I even made one myself for one of the assignments you gave us, creating an original "short film" in booklet form, using cut up bits of my old film scripts, pasted on pages that were cut up pieces of my practice drawings. I still have the booklet on my bookshelf and flip through it occasionally to remember the fun I had making it. Maybe it's time to make another one!
