Another Little Book - "Third Eye"
The Japanese earthquake continues to take up so much of our thoughts. The utter devastation is just impossible to imagine.
The Third Eye is another tiny artist book made from the little subway envelopes used in Tokyo. The images and binding are much more Japanese influenced but include some poetry as well. The interactive, take the pages out of the envelope and examine, aspect is continued from the previous book and I expect to do a few more in this tiny scale.
"Third Eye" is in an edition of 3.
THIRD EYE
pachinko clown
eyes shut tight
clam-like
third eye corner
hides passions
best forgotten
cruel eyes
entice you
to SCREAM
close your eyes
for his
softest kiss
eyes are dreaming
tired and sleepy

Tiny little Artists Book - "UNDERCURRENTS"
The Japanese earthquake still makes me think constantly of my wonderful time in Tokyo and all the experiences I had there. I brought back some beautiful papers and bookmaking materials some of which I have used in this little artist's book.
These tiny books are about the size of a matchbox (do we still have these?) and are designed to need more than just passive looking. They have inserts that need taking out and sometimes include little poems and hidden images.
The little envelopes that make the pages of this unique little book (an edition of one) , are used by passengers on the Tokyo electric underground trains to keep their tickets in. The subject matter are images springing from an old textbook on electricity.

MARGINS - More Collage
What a coincidence, can't stop thinking about all those incredible Japanese people and their horrific experiences. I spent 6 months in Tokyo a little while ago and can't wait to get back there.
Almost finished another little diary started in 2009 which along with 2 other diaries I visit on a daily basis to keep me sane. I've also been very busy making some very tiny little books of Japanese influence. The little Tokyo subway envelopes for the tickets come in very handy.
Plimsol line |
This little work is the first in "Margins" and was started in November 2009 at Moffat Beach, Caloundra before I was due for an operation for prostate cancer. The unit we stayed in faced Queen of Colonies Street, hence some of the references in the drawing. I have been working on this scale for many years and often the subject matter reflects what's going on in my life. I think it helps me cope and stay on a relatively even keel.
I'll add a few more but leave the rest till later as I'd like to put up a few of the tiny books I've just made.
