While I was working on my small books today, looking through my papers and materials I came upon a little experimental painting with egg tempera on ply I'd done a while ago. I've been trying to follow the binding instructions by Keith Smith for one of my books and feel useless and all thumbs but am determined to finally master it. Next stage will be to have a go at coptic binding, the instructions for which look formidable and very mathematical, not good for me as that side of my brain seems deficient.

"Wry Smile" has gone to Etsy. He is my first successful use of egg tempera. I quite like the softness of the colour. Wax and shellac were used to seal the drawing. This is probably not necessary but I feel it gives the drawing a beautiful surface texture. Had to be careful - Ants quite like the egg too. The eggs can't be fresh enough. Will do some more when my hens get back to laying some eggs.
