stone cloud

stone cloud

While I was working on my small books today, looking through my papers and materials I came upon a little experimental painting with egg tempera on ply I'd done a while ago. My passport ID number and an unknown (only to me) braille message seem to feel comfortable together. You can find out a bit more about this work in my Etsy store http://www.etsy.com/listing/92960544/a-small-original-signed-mixed-media
I've been trying to follow the binding instructions by Keith Smith for one of my books and feel useless and all thumbs but am determined to finally master it. Next stage will be to have a go at coptic binding, the instructions for which look formidable and very mathematical, not good for me as that side of my brain seems deficient.

This is a lovely little artwork! I understand your feeling 'all thumbs' because it happens to me all the time. I am always tackling new techniques and I wish I would stick to a few I know -but I won't.

This is the link to an easy (I think) online tutorial on coptic stitching. Maybe it will help you:

Thank you Ersi Marina. I've had a quick look and the site looks promising.I'll give it a shot soon. Incidently, the stitch I was struggling with but finally mastered was a button hole binding with exposed spine. Used for much the same reasons as coptic but not as decorative.
Thanks again for your help and kind comments.
